The best time to surf in Imsouane
Swell seasons, tides and the light I look for, month by month.
Imsouane has one of the longest right-hand waves in Africa, and it works most of the year. But some months are better than others, both for surfing and for photos.
Autumn to spring: the main season
From October to April, Atlantic swells arrive regularly. The bay wraps them into long, slow walls that are perfect for longboarders and learners.
Summer: smaller waves, golden evenings
Summer is smaller and windier in the afternoon, but early mornings are often glassy and the evening light is incredible.
The light
For photos I love the hour before sunset: the sun is behind the shooter at the bay, so faces and spray glow.
